President Qiang Yu received his Ph.D degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1991 from the University of Utah, MS degree in Mineral Processing and Coal Beneficiation from China University of Mining & Technology in 1984. Qiang's outstanding educational background helped him become a successful professional in physical chemistry, metallurgy, building construction, mineral processing, environmental engineering, and materials science and engineering field.
After obtaining his Ph.D, Qiang had served for the University of Utah for 3 years. Meanwhile, he had served for USG Corporation Technology Innovation Center for 17 years from 1994 to 2011. Qiang published regularly in leading academic journals; his publications included 32 papers in various academic journals, 22 research reports in USG Corporation. Most importantly, he has currently hold 52 U.S parents and 7 Chinese ones. Another 3 US and Chinese patent applications are in process.
During 17 years working for USG, Qiang presided over the development and completion of 7 high-impact projects on technical innovation and new product development, which helped the company reduce manufacture cost of $ 20 million and generated $ 80 million new revenue per year. His invented new products included light and ultra-light weight gypsum board, gypsum modification, acoustic and insulated plasterboard, and light-weight fireproof gypsum board etc. In 2010, due to his outstanding contribution to USG’s ultra-light gypsum board product, he honored for the 2010 Chicago Innovation Award.
In 2011, Qiang took absent to leave from USG Corporation Technology Innovation Center and started up Cymco Technologies, LLC.
